Employment & Mentoring

Through the Gate & Community

Ordinarily, delivery through the gate helps to

bring stability in the first few months

post-release and guiding mentees

towards employment. It includes an action

plan to reduce chaos and increase stability,

and diarising scheduled, purposeful activities

focussing on becoming employable or

self-employed. 'Work Out' also focuses on

life-coaching elements, enhancing social

skills, self-presentation, and motivation.

The 1:2:1 coaching is reinforced by an employer partnership offering guaranteed 16-week supported work placements for selected individuals at local businesses in Newcastle, with accredited Food Hygiene qualifications.

Employability Programmes

Community

We would usually deliver job clubs in

partnership with

Christians Against Poverty and Clean Sheet. Participants work on goal setting,

increase motivation for job-seeking,

create an up-to-date CV and undertake

voluntary work. Our job clubs include

an offence disclosure workshop,

which 'showcases' successfully employed

ex-offenders who have rebuilt their

lives and offers teaching on how to disclose convictions in an interview setting.

Participants receive 1:2:1 coaching and take

part in group sessions that have a strong

focus on building community with social

skills and confidence are developed.

Since 2015 we have worked with over 800

individuals and seen more than 60% move

into training, paid, and voluntary work.

“You’s have allowed me to move

away from the £73.10 lifestyle into a paid job, and

I can’t thank you enough for that.”

J, an ex-lifer who engaged with our

Job Club and is now employed as a

caretaker and handyman.
